We ended 2022 on a terrific note! The saguaro research of Dr. Theresa Foley of SERI and her colleagues is listed on USGS’s top 10 incredible stories about Earth’s ecosystems in 2022. The team used the “world’s largest selfie stick” to document a unique flowering pattern they found in the iconic saguaro cacti. They discovered that these flowers bloom in the east at the beginning of the cacti’s reproductive season and continue to flower in a counterclockwise pattern around their stems. Photo Credit: NPS
