The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under President Biden’s Investing in America initiative, awarded $10 million to The University of Arizona to establish the Western Environmental Science Technical Assistance Center for Environmental Justice (WEST EJ Center). This Center, operating for five years, supports underserved communities in environmental justice efforts. As one of 16 Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Centers (EJ TCTACs) launched by the EPA and Department of Energy (DOE), WEST EJ Center assists Region 9, including Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawai’i, U.S.-affiliated Pacific Islands, and Indigenous communities. It offers hands-on support with grant navigation, leadership, and technical expertise for environmental and energy justice.
SERI, one of five community partners, supports this mission through its expertise in environmental justice and community engagement. A dedicated team is leading outreach efforts to promote the Center’s mission and community engagement and developing trainings to align with participant needs.
