SERI Lead-Based Paint Program
News
Every child deserves to grow up in a safe home, free from hidden environmental hazards that can impact their health and future.
SERI, in partnership with the City of Tucson, is working to protect families through its Lead-Based Paint Program.
Many homes in Tucson were built before lead-based paint was banned, which means families—especially those with young children—may be at risk of exposure without even knowing it. Lead dust from deteriorating paint can cause serious health issues, including developmental and learning challenges in children.
SERI’s Lead-Based Paint Program, in partnership with the City of Tucson, helps reduce these risks by providing education and referring eligible households to the City for testing. The City of Tucson conducts laboratory testing of paint in the home, and if lead is identified, remediation is completed to ensure the home becomes lead-safe.
This is a free program for qualifying households. To participate, families must meet certain eligibility requirements, such as having a child under the age of 6 living in or regularly visiting the property, meeting income guidelines, house build prior 1978 and other program criteria.
By focusing on prevention and remediation, SERI is helping create healthier living environments and safer futures for Tucson’s children.
