About Grow Tucson:
Grow Tucson is looking to foster strong, vibrant communities through engagement, education, and advocacy. We believe that building connections at the local level is key to making a lasting, positive impact. We’re looking for two dynamic, passionate individuals to join our team as a Community Champion. In this role, you’ll help build community ties and create opportunities for residents to collaborate on creating green spaces in Tucson’s heat-vulnerable neighborhoods through community-led urban forestry projects that promote a more resilient future for our city.

Description:
As a Community Champion, you will be the liaison between the Grow Tucson partners and community members of the neighborhood you live in. You will actively engage with residents, promote our events, and build relationships that drive community involvement. Your role will involve canvassing the neighborhood, attending and coordinating events, setting up neighborhood meetings, and working closely with community members to understand their needs in regards to creating more green spaces in the neighborhood.

Time Commitment:

Approximately 14hrs per month, and must be willing to work weekends and evenings. Please note that the time commitment may vary from month to month, with some months requiring more than 14 hours and others less.

Compensation: $17.00 per hour  

Please note that by having this position you are not an employee of any of the Grow Tucson Partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Canvassing Neighborhoods:
    • Conduct door-to-door outreach to engage with community members, gather feedback, and share information about ongoing projects.
    • Distribute flyers, and other materials to inform residents of upcoming events, and workshops.
  2. Attending Outreach Events:
    • Help coordinate logistics for events and activities, ensuring smooth operation and maximum participation.
  3. Setting Up Neighborhood Meetings:
    • Organize and facilitate neighborhood meetings to gather input on the projects being done in the neighborhood, and foster dialogue between residents and Grow Tucson partners.
    • Coordinate with the neighborhood association and/or other neighborhood groups to promote meetings and encourage attendance at events.
    • Take notes during meetings, follow up with action items, and report back to Grow Tucson partners on community feedback and concerns.
  4. Building Community:
    • Build and nurture relationships with residents, and/or neighborhood organizations to encourage participation in events and strengthen the fabric of the community.
    • Act as a resource for residents, answering questions about ongoing projects.
