SERI received a $100,000 grant to study precipitation in Tucson. We invented a wooden mount that is easily installed on any kind of fence, so that participants did not have to install a wooden post. Now SERI has received a year’s worth of precipitation measurements from participants. We found that precipitation in Tucson is highly variable. On 28 July, the heaviest rain was on the east side of Tucson. High winds blew down power lines, and over 50,000 people in Tucson lost power. On 22 December it rained all day in most of Tucson. Overall south metropolitan Tucson received more precipitation than the northwest portion of the study area.
