Tucson, Arizona – SERI is pleased to announce they have been awarded $103,175 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These funds will support the Fair Housing Initiative Program - Education and Outreach Initiative (EOI) to help inform the Tucson, Arizona metropolitan area of their rights and obligations under the Fair Housing Act including assisting individuals in the community who believe that they have been victims of housing discrimination. The 12-month program will include developing, coordinating, and executing education and outreach initiatives in the forms of a complaint system, web page, educational material, community partnerships, educational webinars, digital media campaigns, and advertising.

Low-income and minority communities are most at risk of housing discrimination and through this grant SERI can help eliminate biases and prejudices in the community in order to protect these individuals’ livelihoods. Through SERI’s complaint hotline (520-306-0938 and hotline@seriaz.org) and the Arizona Relay Service individuals who believe they are being discriminated against in housing can contact SERI, who will then refer them to the proper agency.

“We are very pleased to have received this competitive grant from HUD to address housing discrimination in our community. Many individuals in our community are unaware of their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act and this grant allows us to educate these individuals and stop letting victims of housing discrimination go unnoticed.” – Ann Marie Wolf, President, SERI
